Elementary in term of aesthetic but sophisticated in term of drawing, Executive was designed as a classic sans serif typeface with the raw DNA of a typewriter.
A type shuttle for a Hammond typewriter was the trigger to the design. The global aspect of the face was quite narrow and some letters like the "W" or the "M" were very compact due to the technical specificities of the technique. The generous space between letters was another interesting feature as it gave a very clear and sharp aspect. That led to the skeleton of Executive, whose drawing was processed through tests realized in different editorial contexts between 2002 and 2007. As a result, Executive is characterized by a very pragmatic design: a narrow typeface combined with a generous spacing, which make it economic and highly legible at all text sizes.
